Fabric Care Guide

A well-cared saree lasts a lifetime. Here's how to preserve every thread, colour, and weave.

Silk
Kanjivaram · Banarasi · Chanderi
Dry clean only — always recommended for silk sarees
If hand washing, use cold water and a mild silk-specific detergent
Do not wring — gently press water out and lay flat to dry in shade
Iron on the reverse side at low-medium heat while slightly damp
Cotton
Handloom · Khadi · Jamdani
Hand wash gently in cold water with a mild detergent
Machine wash on delicate cycle (30°C max) in a mesh laundry bag
Lay flat or hang to dry in shade — avoid direct sunlight to prevent fading
Iron at medium heat while slightly damp for a crisp finish
Linen
Pure Linen · Cotton-Linen Blend
Hand wash in cool water or gentle machine cycle (30°C)
Use a gentle detergent — avoid bleach or harsh chemicals
Hang to dry — linen softens and drapes better with each wash
Iron while damp at medium-high heat — linen loves a good press
Universal Care Tips
Storage

Store sarees folded or rolled loosely in a soft muslin cloth. Avoid plastic bags which trap moisture.

Refold Periodically

Refold your sarees every few months along different lines to prevent permanent crease marks.

Protect from Moths

Place neem leaves or a cedar block in your wardrobe. Avoid chemical mothballs directly on fabric.

First Wash

Before wearing for the first time, a gentle wash in cold water helps set the colour and soften the weave.

Never soak sarees in water for extended periods. Avoid direct sunlight for prolonged drying as it can fade the colour of both silk and cotton. When in doubt, dry clean is always the safest choice.
